We began the day getting ready with Sophia at the stunning Wedding Cake Mansion off of Monterey Square. There are few getting-ready spaces I would recommend over this one—it is jaw-droppingly beautiful and full of character. On the third floor is a gorgeous parlor that fills with light from a picturesque bay window. It’s every bride’s dream space to get her dress on!
After relaxing with family while she got ready, Sophia headed out to Monterey Square to see her groom for the first time that day. Underneath the centuries-old live oaks, Justin and Sophia shared an intimate moment together in the quiet before the day really got going. First looks are the perfect way to make sure you can head into the full wedding craziness together and enjoy a little bit of quiet and calmness to center yourself before it all kicks off.
We got to enjoy a few quick bride-and-groom portraits before heading toward The Wyld to meet family and capture family portraits before the ceremony.
The ceremony overlooking the marsh had this photographer dabbing her eyes during the vows—and I wasn’t the only one! Sophia + Justin said their vows surrounded by the people who mean the most to them, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house! After their first kiss, it was nothing but beaming smiles for the rest of the night.
What happened next was exactly why I recommend a first look to everyone who is on the fence about it. Sophia + Justin got to enjoy a gorgeous cocktail hour with their loved ones and actually spend time greeting and loving on everyone they invited! We snuck away for a moment to capture a few stunning marsh portraits, and then it was back to shuck oysters, toast the newlyweds, and dance the night away!
This was one of my favorite wedding days because the top priority was living the day. Being present and creating memories was the most important thing for these two, and it naturally created a gallery that tells a story. One that is full of love and laughter and community. When you take the performance of a wedding off the table and focus on making it a lived experience instead, you get the gallery of your dreams and memories that last a lifetime.
